Rebuilding Nepal Through Trade
After the massive earthquakes that tragically struck Nepal in 2015, the people of Nepal are still struggling to heal emotionally and physically.
Relief workers in Kathmandu have told us that one of the most important things we can do to help Nepalese families regain a sense of normalcy is to provide trade so that people can once again wake up in the morning and go to work. We encourage you to support Nepalese artisans and their families by purchasing products marked with the prayer flag icon shown above.
DharmaCrafts has committed to donate 5% of the sales revenue of all Nepalese products throughout 2015 and 2016 to earthquake relief efforts. A large percentage of our donation will go to Roshi Joan Halifax's Nepal Earthquake Relief Fund (NERF) set up through Upaya Zen Center. Upaya's example of engaged Buddhism is inspirational to us and to our efforts. DharmaCrafts will also contribute to the Save the Children Fund.

Your meditation cushion is so much more than an ergonomic tool. Over time, it becomes your beloved companion! That's why making quality cushions is so important to DharmaCrafts. It is our honor to make the cushion that will accompany you on your spiritual journey.
Handcrafted in Our Own ShopSince the beginning, DharmaCrafts cushions have been handcrafted in our own shop. DharmaCrafts' founder, Dyan Eagles, originally stuffed each zafu herself outside on the porch at the Cambridge Zen Center, even during the cold New England winter. Now your DharmaCrafts cushion is made by a small, dedicated staff of trained craftspeople who pay close attention to fine detail.
Experience the QualitySince 1979 we have handcrafted the finest meditation cushions available. In homes, meditation centers, hospitals, corporations, and schools across the country, thousands of people begin and end their day on a DharmaCrafts cushion.
Made to Last a LifetimeYou can expect your DharmaCrafts cushion to last a lifetime. Premium materials, double-stitched seams, and careful assembly result in a superior meditation cushion—the perfect place to rest your body and mind.
Our Commitment to YouYou can depend on our workmanship for a consistently excellent and distinctive product.
In 1979, Dyan Eagles, a young student of Zen Master Seung Sahn at the Cambridge Zen Center in Massachusetts, founded DharmaCrafts to fulfill her vision of right livelihood. Many years later DharmaCrafts is still fulfilling its mission of providing the dharma community with teaching and products to support spiritual practice and inspire everyday life.
So much has changed since the early years when Dyan stuffed each zafu cushion by herself. DharmaCrafts cushions are now made in our own workshop in Lawrence, Massachusetts, by a small, dedicated staff of trained craftspeople who pay close attention to details. You can still depend on our workmanship for a consistently excellent and distinctive meditation cushion, resulting in the perfect place to rest your body and mind.
This informative and fun video shows you why choosing a handcrafted DharmaCrafts meditation cushion is an investment that will last a lifetime. You will also learn the benefits of using a zafu (round cushion) and zabuton (flat mat) set as opposed to just sitting on the floor or on a pillow.
Zippered covers are washable!
All round buckwheat filled zafu cushions, flat zabuton mats, roll up and go yoga mats, and support cushions come with a zippered cover that may be removed for washing.
Kapok zafus and bench cushions: spot clean only.
Remove zippered cover. Turn cover inside out and machine wash separately in COLD water, gentle cycle, using liquid detergent. Be sure NOT to overload washing machine. Allow enough space for the water to circulate evenly among the covers, ensuring that they will look as good after washing as they did when they were new!
— Buckwheat zafu: Inner shell is also washable. Remove outer cover, unzip shell & pour out buckwheat before washing. Buckwheat hulls should NOT get wet.
— Zabuton mat: Cut the decorative stitch/tack on surface of cushion before removing cover.
— Two-toned cushions: Dry cleaning is recommended to prevent the risk of bleeding.
Hang to dry. Do NOT use dryer. Cotton will shrink in dryer. Iron on cotton setting.
Buckwheat hull and cotton batting filling should NOT get wet.
As with all fine fabrics, avoid direct sunlight. All fabrics will fade over time.
The short answer: All 3 collections are built to last with double-stitched seams, durable cotton duck fabric, and zippered covers.
Classic Collection: We use non-organic, cover fabric in "classic" colors (black brown, midnight blue, royal blue, green, maroon).
Eco Collection: We offer a wide array of bright ORGANIC covers colored using eco-friendly, low impact dyes.
Organic Collection: We use the same outer covers as the Eco Collection plus organic lining fabric and organic cotton batting in the zabuton.
Our buckwheat hulls come from buckwheat that is grown in the U.S. and in Eastern Europe. We purchase U.S. grown buckwheat hulls whenever the supply is available. Buckwheat is a unique crop because it is grown without herbicides or pesticides. We do, however, purchase certified organic buckwheat hulls whenever they are available.
