The Medicine Buddha (Bhaisajyaguru, Skt.) is one of the most revered deities of the Buddhist pantheon. He is invoked for healing physical illnesses, as well as to pacify the inner afflictions of desire, anger and ignorance. His right hand is extended in the gesture of giving and holds the stem of a medicinal plant. His left hand holds a jar of healing nectar.
